Surveillance Technology
by Julianna Munro
http://www.firstsurveillance.com
Surveillance technology is constantly growing in the world
we live in today. You can see cameras in almost every
public school you go into, also retails stores, and even
gas stations have put out this type of equipment. Of course
walk in any bank or airport and surveillance equipment can
be found everywhere. We have a very large range of
surveillance technology to choose from, starting with
wiretapping which has been around for a long time and
ending up with the more complicated computer software we
have come to know as biometrics.
If a criminal thinks he may be on camera then he is
unlikely to commit a crime at that facility, which in turn
is helping to protect us from robberies and other crimes
that could be happening. As the surveillance technology is
becoming more available to the public, more businesses and
homes can be protected by this ever-growing technology.
People want to protect their homes and business from being
a victim of a crime, and having surveillance technology is
an excellent way to do that. It is doubtful a criminal will
break into a home or rob a store if they know they are
being filmed on a camera that tells authorities what they
look like. They will pick a place that has no cameras
first. Surveillance cameras can not pick up everything that
goes on but, in the event someone does still commit a
crime at a facility that has surveillance technology it
will be easier for the police to identify and arrest the
perpetrator.
Surveillance equipment still works in the original way it
was intended since it was first introduced to us i.e it is
still used to try and prevent crimes. A lot of small
businesses that can~t afford to install a real security
system uses dummy cameras to try and discourage a thief
from committing a crime on there premises. Although they
don~t record anything, no one really knows for sure if
these cameras are real or not therefore, they do help some
in the prevention of a crime.
Big companies that own store and warehouses usually install
cameras to prevent the theft of their merchandise. Most of
the time someone from outside of the company will enter and
steal merchandise, but in these instances the surveillance
cameras will record this action, and evidence can be given
to the police to have these people arrested and charged
with their crime. Once in a while a company has an employee
that feels the need to take merchandise; in this case the
company will follow their procedures for this occurrence,
which normally includes termination of the employee.
Almost everywhere we go today we see a surveillance camera
put out to help protect the companies merchandise and
equipment from both outside crimes, and from employees that
could become a potential thief. To name a few other places
using surveillance cameras today, you can find them in
parking garages, financial institutions, office buildings
and many more. All of these institutions use their
surveillance equipment to help catch and prosecute
criminals whether they are an employee or someone from out
side of their businesses. This also helps reduce the cost
of loss merchandise for companies which can help keep the
cost we pay as consumers down.
