A Christmas in Europe
by Louis Patterson
http://www.yahoo.com

Christmastime in Europe is one of the most magical
times to head to this amazing continent. Europe is
rich with history and culture, and it all seems to
come alive during the month of Christmas. Even
though the weather can be quite unforgiving and
cold, Christmas will leave you with warm and
wonderful memories. Thanks to the many festivals,
traditions, and celebrations, Christmas is one of the
best times to visit Europe.

One of the biggest highlights of celebrating
Christmas in a European country is the amazing
culinary delights that you~ll experience. Each
country has its own specialty foods that it prepares
for the holidays. In Germany you can experience
the pleasure of eating Stollen, which is a Christmas
cake that is baked through the month of December
to be enjoyed on Christmas Eve. Other countries
have their own mouthwatering foods for you to
enjoy. And don~t forget to bring home chocolate
which abounds in all countries for the Christmas
season.

Christmas traditions in Europe differ from North
American traditions. In most European countries
Santa Claus comes in the early evening on
Christmas Eve, not in the middle of the night. Most
families go to an early church service were a candle
light ceremony takes place, consisting mainly of
beautiful Christmas carols. Then a wonderful meal
is served followed by sweet treats and the opening
of gifts. Christmas Eve is a very busy time for
European families.

Christmas Day is spent relaxing and followed by a
big fancy evening dinner. As in North America,
almost all shops are closed on Christmas Day to
allow friends and family to relax and enjoy each
other~s company.

If you~re planning a vacation to Europe at
Christmas don~t expect the prices to be much
cheaper than the high season during the summer.
And you~ll need to book ahead with plenty of time
left before your departure date since flights at this
time of year fill up fast. This is because many
people in North America have discovered the
wonders and excitement of holidaying overseas
during the Christmas season.

You may find that flights to Europe are cheaper if
you travel in the week after New Years, since by
then Christmas is over and cities are getting back
into the groove of daily life. You can count on the
holiday celebration lasting throughout the month of
December so no matter time of the month that you
go you~ll be able to participate in the many
Christmas activities.
