Entrepreneurship: Investing in Your Future
by Lester Surtere
http://www.faninvesting.com

Most entrepreneurs have decided at an early age that they
they were willing to make sacrifices, discipline themselves
and follow strict guidelines to be successful. They knew
how important it was to investing their time and money
properly. When it comes to making investments, however,
most people, are unsure of their abilities to make
decisions regarding business opportunities. Or, they miss
critical opportunities because they do not have any
confidence when it comes to making these decisions. If you
have the ability to make the necessary decisions to make
the best investments, you may be a true entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur will not avoid risk, but he will not take
undue risks, but rather think them all through. How does a
person who wants to become an entrepreneur educate himself
about the up and downsides of risk? Keep abreast of
business conditions by reading publications such as The
Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and Business Week.
This kind of research is one of the most important steps
toward sound investing, so do it scrupulously. Speedreading
through these pages will only cause you to lose money. You
can also use today's technology to research on internet
search engines. Network with other investors to get an idea
about where they are putting their money as well.

Try this experiment, if you want to test your discipline.
Commit to setting aside a certain percentage of your income
each week to savings. If, after a few months, you have
never been tempted to withdraw money from the account, and
all your funds are still intact, you probably have the stuff
to start investing. If you were not able to keep your hands
off the money, you need to work on your discipline,
because investing takes this kind of discipline.

New markets are the riskiest investments of all. You
should avoid this type of investment, unless you are
already a seasoned investor. For the novice investor,
the safest approach is to study the histories of investment
instruments that interest you and then choose those which
have a steady history of five or more years of growth.
Remember that no investment is guaranteed, and you can't
always count on past perfomance but you are more likely to
be successful with those with positive performance history.

An old proverb tells us not to put all of our eggs in
one basket. In the investment world, they say "diversify
risk". It is not a good idea to invest all of your money
into one type of investment or one sector of the economy.
Having investments in different areas will spread your risk
and help you be successful.

Sometimes it will take a great deal of patience to wait to
see your investments start to pay off. Most really good
investments took a great deal of time before they began to
succeed. Even if you have to wait for a few years before
an investment becomes lucrative, it will be worth while in
the long run. If you can't take a wait and see attitude in
the investment market, you may end up losing all of the
money you originally invested.

Try to find a mentor; it's another trick of successful
starting out entrepreneurs. You should choose a person
who has already made all the mistakes in business and will
help you avoid them. Until you figure it out on your own,
they will be of great assistance in guiding you.
