How A Basket Assortment Can Be Used In Home Decor

Are the kids tearing up your furniture to the point that the
thought of getting new furniture scares you? Is that new
dining room set out of the question? Fear not, friend,
there may be a solution.

Many of us thought that by having children, and maybe pets,
meant a halt to using the decorating ideas that we had. It
may be time to open your eyes to some possibilities that are
waiting to be discovered.

The task of furnishing your home can be made a whole lot
easier just by employing the right materials. There are
some wonderful possibilities to consider for your family.

How about leather? It looks great and minor spills can be
easily wiped clean. It's tough and wears well and, as an
added bonus, begins to look better as it ages. Got pets?
Leather will not collect pet hair like other materials will.
Plus, dirt can be easily wiped off.

Wicker furniture is reasonable and easy to care for. Set
it off with an assortment of baskets for keeping magazines
and "stuff" and you've got an attractive setting. A basket
can be used for numerous things, inside or out.

If you prefer fabric upholstery, think of luxurious
Ultrasuede. Sophisticated enough for even the most formal
rooms, it's looks belie the easy care of the material. You
won't deal with fading or staining the way you are
accustomed to with cotton, and many stains will come off
quite easily with a damp cloth.

Do you have real ruffians running around? You can always
count on slipcovers if you need to. Many decorators have
used white or cream slipcovers to good effect, although you
may consider a stripe or other pattern to disguise everyday
wear. And because you can clean them thoroughly by removing
them you do not have to be too concerned about occasional
messes. Slipcovers also work well on fancy dining room
chairs and can be removed for adult-only dinner parties.

Just remember to stay away from delicate materials like
velvet and silk, especially if you have kids around. They
stain easily and are hard to clean.

If your carpets are a light shade, consider area rugs to
protect them. If the surface is hard and slippery, use a
pad underneath the area rug to keep them from moving.

Speaking of wood, sometimes there is nothing better when
choosing furniture material. Just be sure to use a
protective coating to guard against spills and to maintain
its good looks.

When making decision about decorating your home, a little
time spent researching different materials can make a world
of difference.
