Internet Dating 101 - 5 Great Places for a First Date
by Yaron Rawlings
http://www.yrdating.com
Remember how complicated arranging a blind date used to be?
Hold onto your hat - the rise of internet dating has amped
the complications to a new level.
Blind dates have always been tricky, but the Internet has
thrown some new monkey wrenches into the mix. You don't
necessarily have a friend to introduce you or play buffer.
Without the restrictions of space, you can meet someone from
the other side of the country as easily as you can someone
from the other side of town. That can make meeting a puzzle
of logistics that will challenge any Einstein.
Frankly, if the person that you've met is traveling a long
distance for this meeting, you may be tempted to skimp on
the safety precautions. Don't. In fact, you should be
especially careful with a long distance meeting, whether
it's you that's done the traveling or your date. It's far
easier to get away with 'bad intentions' when either victim
or perpetrator are far from home. No matter how far-fetched
it seems, keep safety first when you meet that special
heart-throb for the first time.
Here are five suggestions for places that fit all the safety
requirements and still promise fun.
Pick A Special Event You'll Enjoy Regardless of Company
Maybe you're both art buffs and there's a great exhibit at
the local museum. Perhaps you both love salt water taffy and
you know of a tour at the candy factory in the next town. Or
- a favorite first meeting place for many people -there's a
great Con in town. No matter what the event, you'll both be
more comfortable and at ease if you've got something to
focus on besides each other at first.
A Museum or Gallery Opening Is there an exhibit coming up
that you know she'd love? Invite her to meet you there.
There's plenty of time to chat as you wander the exhibits
together. You'll find the pressure of 'dating small talk' is
almost non-existent when you have a ready built topic for
conversation.
Meet at the Borders - Book Store, That Is Bookstores are
underrated as great places to meet someone you're looking
forward to getting to know. It meets the safety requirement
of being big and public and still offers a lot of privacy
for quiet talk. A local bookstore/cafe combo lets you wander
the aisles together, letting books spark conversation, then
find a cozy little table to share a coffee and dessert while
you get to know each other better.
Always have a Plan B. No matter how careful your planning
was, sometimes the unexpected happens and interferes. If
your reservations for dinner got canceled or the show was
sold out, having a Plan B in reserve can keep things running
smooth. Better yet, have two or three Plan B's to pick from
if Plan A doesn't work out.
Plan to meet for the first time at a get-together. Many
online chat, dating or game sites plan periodic get-
togethers. Meeting for the first time at a larger get-
together can make things low-pressure and more comfortable.
It's just a chance to meet lots of friends together. You'll
be surrounded by others meeting for the first time, and
everyone will have common ground to start from.
The most important suggestions of all are those related to
safety, and they apply as much to men as they do to women.
Always meet in public. Always be sure that someone knows
where you are and who you are with. Arrange safety check-ins
every few hours. Provide your own transportation to and from
your meeting.
